My Story. 3A

Growing up my parents always pushed me to be the best that I could be, to strive for greatness, and to compete against those who told me I couldn’t. I wanted to become the best version of myself that I could and I always strived for greatness, but most often greatness takes a lot of time, patience, and hard work. Throughout elementary and middle school I was always apart of the so called “gifted and talented” classes, a group of 14 or so of us were placed in all the advanced classes. In fifth grade we were all placed with the same teacher, Mr. V, who to this day is still one of the greatest educators I have ever encountered. One of the main projects we had within this class was an invention fair, where we were to invent a brand new item, produce a prototype for the item, market it, and finally attempt to sell it at an invention fair where all our parents were invited to come see. We were placed in groups of four and had three weeks to plan and devise all of our ideas. I myself was the group leader, having to delegate and plan under the real pressures of an adult. The hardest part of the task was the ability to be unique, the final product didn’t have to be too realistic and was able to be simplified for a fifth graders ability, but still we wanted the idea to be plausible and actually sell to adults in the real world. The group that had the most votes casted by parents would in the end be the winners. We created posters, we had a whole table set up, business clothes, food, water, you name it. We did anything and everything in our power to be as professional as possible and to market our item as best we could to make it win. In the end we ended up in second place, but the overall experience was one that stuck with me since. 

Creating new ways to solve a single problem is something that I have always gravitated towards. Puzzles, mouse traps, riddles, all of it had always been my go to. My desire to be creative and think outside of the box is why I wanted to take this class in the first place. Not only that but getting a better understanding of becoming my own entrepreneur is a skill that is so crucial in today's society. Hopefully one day I will be able to take what I have learned within this class and apply it to my own life, bettering it and those lives around me.

Bugs !!

1. Within my apartment room, the bathroom door, closet door, and bedroom door are on three different walls, thus when my bedroom door is closed but my closet is open and my bathroom door is open I have to close all the other doors to make it out of my room, like a fun house. 
1. I believe this was an attempt to save as much room as possible, and simply a technical error with whoever designed the building and room. 
2. The single elevator next to my apartment doesn’t have as heavy traffic so I always use it, but when I’m running late the button conveniently doesn’t work.
1. I can only assume this is due to the fact that the elevator itself is not working properly and no one has sent in a request to get it fixed, leaving it to be constantly unstable and you never know if it’s going to work or not.
3. In my bathroom the light and the fan turn on together, meaning there is only one switch so whenever the light is on the fan is on. It is so loud and annoying and I can’t hear anyone when I’m getting ready.
1. I believe this is because it is easier to wire both to one switch, being more cost effective and time efficient. 
4. To get to the parking garage we have to cross the sky bridge, my room is on floor five along with my parked car but the sky bridges are only on floors 3 and 8.
1. It was probably more cost effective to create only two bridges instead of all bridges. Along with that I’m sure that curb appeal wouldn’t have been as great.
5. The inside of my car windshield always gets so dusty and I can never see at night because the lights reflect so oddly. Plus it’s so hard to clean.
1. There is a lot of dust that collects within the car and even though the windshield is at an odd angle it still gets attracted and stuck on it.
6. On university the median in the middle of the road makes it so difficult to make a left turn, meaning I always have to go right to go left, or wait at an obnoxiously long light. 
1. This is due to the fact that they don’t want people getting into accidents in attempts to find a faster route, therefore the median removes that possibility entirely. 
7. At the light next to the chipotle on university, when turning left, the light turns green but that’s at the same time that people are allowed to cross the street, meaning that you have to wait for everyone to cross before you can turn and by that time, only one car has turned and the light is red again. 
1. Every traffic light is set on timers and thus the lights changing are constant, the only difference is this is a main crossing for students, if there were more it wouldn’t feel as dreadful. 
8. When one person in the backseat rolls their window down and the wind makes that terrible noise and everyone's ears hurt, so either you roll it up or all the windows have to go down. 
1. This is due to the fact of the air flow into the car, when all the windows are up the air rolls smoothly over the car but when one window is down it messes with the flow causing a noise. 
9. When the people in front of you are walking so slow and you are in a hurry.
1. This is due to the fact the they are in no rush and taking their time, making it seem far slower because you need to get somewhere quickly. 
10. When people get things out of the fridge and they leave it open the whole time letting all the cold air out.
1. People are often so preoccupied with their task at hand they have simply forgotten that the door is open and the cold air is escaping, they simply believe the amount of time they are taking is short.
11. When people put food back in the pantry and they don’t roll it back up, leaving the food to get stale.
1. They simply are unaware of the fact that they have done this, or without a clip the bag is left to unravel itself 
12. When you don’t want to eat your food in your car but by the time you get home the food is luke warm 
1. This is due to the fact that the containers they are in are not designed to keep the food warm for very long, even though it is take out. 
13. Needing clothes off the top shelf at a store but having to wait and go get someone to help you get it down.
1. This is because of the liability of people attempting to get their own close down. 
14. Getting your toe nails done and as soon as you leave stubbing your toe on the ground and messing up the polish.
1. This is due to the fact that many people (including myself) are impatient and do not wait long enough to ensure that the polish is dry before leaving. 
15. Having a plug be so large that it covers half of the other outlet meaning you have to plug in the other object in a totally other outlet
1. This is due to the package styling, some plugs are simply designed to be bigger therefore they take up more room. 
16. When you get something out of the vending machine but it falls and gets stuck against the glass and you have to try and shake the whole machine to get it down. 
1. This is due to the fact that some items are far too large and the glass is not far enough away leaving it ample room to fall. 
17. Having to walk all the way to class with your backpack on and you sweat where your backpack was. :/ 
1. This is due to the fact that backpacks are pressed hard against your back trapping heat and causing you to sweat, even when the rest of your body isn’t. 
18. Needing to get something out of your eye but your hands are dirty, but if you put on hand sanitizer it burns.
1. The best way to resolve this would be to wash under water with soap but often there are none around. 
19. When you’re wearing a baseball cap, but you also want to put your sunglasses on, and now it feels uncomfortable and there’s a lot of pressure on your poor ears.
1. This is due to the fact that each item is meant to be worn separately but some people have sensitive eyes and need a lot of protection. 
20. When the pockets of your jeans don’t dry properly and now they’re damp and uncomfortable against your skin.
1. This is due to the fact that they get balled up when in the wash and are not able to dry properly when they make it into the dryer.  

Often times throughout my day I catch myself complaining about one thing or another, but usually don’t do anything to help change what I am complaining about. Thus coming up with this list wasn’t easy because they weren’t all just laying around somewhere in the back of my mind. Although, by doing it over the course of a few days I was able to catch myself when something would bother me and jot it down. Another reason I feel as though I found this to be a simpler task was due to the fact that one larger problem would create a domino effect for smaller problems, allowing me to break off and find a few more bugs from a single thought. Whereas discovering the ‘why’ for each issue was a bit more challenging, sometimes you have to dive far deeper into a particular situation to discover the origin or cause of it.
